"I'm inspired by nature" Don't you just hear that all the time when an artist is talking about their inspiration?? Trouble is its kinda true, after all we are part of nature and nature is part of us so its difficult to avoid!
So, I admit it, I'm inspired by nature and the world around me. And as I discovered, as I looked through my work for this website, I seem to be particularly inspired by birds but then I guess that's what I see most, what I know best. A visit to Africa DID inspire a series of paintings of animals but, as visiting Africa is, for most of us at least, the reason for visiting.
To be honest I didn't, originally intend to be an artist. I wanted to be like David Attenborough and travel the world observing and studying nature. But I discovered, even as a child, that, whilst I was fascinated by looking at the natural world, I couldn't stop drawing it!
It seemed a natural progression therefore to study scientific illustration which allowed me to combine both loves. This gave me the skills to depict the wildlife I loved and further evolution of my artistic skills has led to the work you see here.
I also wanted to share these skills with others and encourage their love of creating, whatever form that took and so teaching has become very important to me.
But its not just about teaching a particular style, medium or subject but about encouraging folk to have the confidence to express themselves through creating, through their art. To give them the confidence to express themselves artistically and enjoy it as I've been able to do. To show and share the sheer joy of creating!
So I hope you enjoy looking at my website and gain some inspiration for your own creations!
