Seed Pod Abstracts
A series of designs based around seed pods. I've always been fascinated by the engineering, if you like, of how plants have evolved ways of distributing their seeds. The clever ways that have evolved to make this as efficient as possible. To be honest, looking at how they do this, you'd be forgiven for thinking they had been specifically designed and not naturally evolved over a very long period of time.
I think too that the idea of 'evolution' helps us with our art. When you think about evolution, it is only when you realise that mistakes have led to the solutions you see today, that you realise just how important making mistakes are! That if you don't make mistakes you don't move forward, get better or evolve.
A lesson I think we all need to learn!
My studies have led to a whole range of outcomes, including more sculptural pieces, though I've not shown these here. Some of the designs shown here were painted, some are layered papercuts. These papercuts allow for a bit of depth.
