
As I worked on the painting I realised there was something fundamentally wrong with the composition. The shells were too central and took up too much paper. The paper just wasn't long enough!
What to do? I attached more paper both to the side and especially to the bottom.
This created another problem, you could see the joins! Solution, add collaged paper! I used some hand made paper and some lovely paper with little gold flecks in it. By using this across the picture I hid any joins and created texture to enhance the roughness of the shells and rock.
I then applied more ink and more drawing.
